Guinness book world record holder Cyclist Adil Teli is all set to add another feather to his crown for undertaking the journey from Leh to Manali in 30 hours.
Cyclist Adil Teli, a budding youth hailing from Narbal in central Kashmir’s Budgam district has already pedaled from Kashmir to Kanyakumari, covering a distance of 3,600 kilometers in just eight days in 2021 and recorded his name in the Guiness book of World Records.
Adil is attempting to break the earlier world record of 35 hours journey from Leh to Manali in 30 hours to create history this time.
Jammu and Kashmir Tourism Secretary Sarmad Hafeez flagged off the cyclist Adil Teli from Tourist Reception Centre Srinagar for Leh here on Friday.
"This is my second attempt to create a Guinness record which started from Leh to Manali and will cover 475 kms approximately aimed high rough terrain that has to be crossed to create the event. The highest pass on the road would be around 5300 meter from above the sea level and the other four are more than more than 4000 thousand meters," Adil told reporters before leaving for Leh.
He said, "there might be several tough challenges on the way but I am ready to undertake these challenges to create the history."
"I have already prepared myself for this event more than what one is expecting. I have spend 45 days in Ladakh to acclimatise with the high altitude environment for this event." Adil said and added "earlier the riders use to spend few days in Ladakh before undertaking their journey, but I have spend one and a half month there to be put myself in the best of position and prove myself with the environment fit."
"I have also ridden the highest Khardungla pass in Ladakh which is about 5,359 meters high six to seven times to make myself strong enough to conquer any event in the world”, Adil said.
He said my attempt would be to beat the earlier Guinness world record with a good margin to register yet another record on my name.
On the occasion, Secretary Tourism Sarmad Hafeez said: "There is a lot of adventure and excitement and I must congratulate Adil for undertaking the challenge to create his second Guinness world record."
He said Adil has already created a world record in cycling by travelling from Kashmir to Kanyakumari in a record time and is attempting to break another world record from Leh to Manali.
Jammu and Kashmir has produced several champion cyclists who have excelled in the sport and have done great, he said: "It is a great thing that the tourism department is supporting cyclist Adil Teli in his endeavor and wish him all the best.
"It is a challenging event for him to break the earlier world record created in 35 hours to 30 hours. It is a great inspiration for all the cyclists in Jammu and Kashmir."
