Delhi Government has made Lok Nayak Hospital as the dedicated facility to manage Monkeypox patients in the national capital, according to an official notification issued on Monday.

A notification issued by the Directorate General of Health Services stated that an isolation ward in the Delhi Government-run hospital has been reserved for suspected and confirmed cases of Monkeypox.

"A ward at Lok Nayak Hospital has been reserved for suspected/confirmed cases of Monkeypox, therefore any such case must be referred to Lok Nayak Hospital in coordination with District Surveillance Officers," the notification copy read.

Suresh Kumar, Director of Lok Nayak Hospital told UNI that the institute has set aside six beds for the ward and also trained its medical staff to manage Monkeypox patients.

"We have kept six beds in the ward for the treatment of suspected and confirmed Monkeylox cases. Meanwhile, about 20 healthcare workers including junior and senior doctors, and nurses have been trained to manage such patients," he said.

Meanwhile, the DGHS in the notification reminded the health facilities to follow the Centre's guidelines for the management of Monkeypox disease.

It also reiterated that the healthcare units must inform the DSOs, in case a suspected case of Monkeypox is reported.

On Sunday, Delhi reported its first case of Monkeypox in a 34-year-old man from the West District with no history of international travel. This is the fourth case of Monkeypox in the country.

The Union Health Ministry informed that the patient was admitted to Lok Nayak upon exhibiting the symptoms and was confirmed for the disease by the National Institute of Virology (NIV), Pune.

The other three cases of monkeypox were recorded in Kerala earlier this month. The first case was reported in Kerala's Kollam on July 14, after a man who arrived from the UAE tested positive, while the second one was reported in a 31-year-old Dubai returnee. The third case was recorded on July 22 in a resident of Malappuram, who arrived in the state on July 6.
