Meghalaya reports 52 new Covid-19 cases

The numbers of daily Covid-19 cases have been fluctuating in Meghalaya from relatively low to high over more than a month now with 52 more new cases of infection reported on Tuesday, taking the number of confirmed cases to 95,977 and 1,611 deaths due to the viral disease, health officials said.


The number of people currently infected with the virus in the State is 706, while 62 more people have also recovered from the viral infection, mounting the number of recoveries to 93,690 on Tuesday, they said.


The most pandemic-hit West Garo Hills, including Tura registered 20 new Covid-19 cases and 13 cases of recovery even as the number of active cases in the district was increased to 439, the

highest in the state.


The number of active Covid-19 cases came down to 100 in the East Khasi Hills, which includes state capital Shillong with the district reporting six new cases of infection and 26 cases of recoveries today, as per official statistics.


New cases were also reported from West Jaintia Hills district, South West Garo Hills district, South Garo Hills district, Ri-Bhoi district and South West Khasi Hills district, East Garo Hills district, Eastern West Khasi Hills district and North Garo Hills district.


“At present, 49 Covid-19 infected patients are undergoing treatment in various hospitals in the state,” a health official said.


Meanwhile, according to the National Health Mission record, 32,141 health care workers have received the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine, 29,525 have been administered with the second dose and 10766 have taken the third precaution dose, while 97,034 front-line workers have been vaccinated with the first dose.


Around 85,757 have received the second dose and 31,310 have got the precaution shot, even as 13,08,296 persons from among the general public have been inoculated with the first dose, 9,58,995 have been fully vaccinated with the second dose and 22,786 citizens have taken the booster dose across the state till date.
